Hi, I have a 1984, 85 hp force model 856x4l. I burned a stator, replaced it with a new one fired it up and it was missing on #2 cylinder. Compression 150# each cylinder. I swapped coils with # 3 and had the same problem. I swapped my pack around from the one that fires 1&2 to the one that fires 3 (and 4 for a 4 cylinder) and it runs fine now. Will I have problems with this again or do I need to replace the pack that has a section bad? I hope I have made this clear. Thanks for this board, it has really give me some good tips.

Could be a sign of more troubles ahead.
But maybe it was just a loose connection that will now be ok.

Cross your fingers.

20 years, so it's doubtful that it was the bad coil that burned out your stator. Probably was just time to replace it and now you're good to go.

Anyway, I'm not aware of anything inside that power pack that could cause it to burn back out, however it wouldn't hurt to go ahead and change it out. Most likely if one connection is dead on it, the other isn't going to be far behind.
