Cutting some firewood and one of the deadfall that I have available is a 24"+ diameter maple, but there is 8 inches of hollow/pulpy rotten stuff in the centre with 8-10" perfectly solid shell.
While drying this, if I cut and split it, will the rot consume the complete piece? i.e am i wasting my time with this one? I figure I'll get more than 1/2 a true cord out of this one, but if it is just going to be pulp when dry I might as well save my time.

Should be fine to burn this winter. I would knock off what rot I could and stack it w the rotside down if not covered.

Ayuh,... Dryin' slows the rot,...
If burnt this season or next, it's well worth the effort...
