I have recently purchased a used boat/ motor set up and can not find the model and serial #'s on the motor. After looking over the past posts on the forum it seems that the two main places to find these are a plate on the transom bracket and on a freeze plug near the motor head. The plate is missing and the numbers on the freeze plug are unreadable. Are there any other locations that I might find these on the motor. There are lots of part numbers on the the various parts of the motor but they don't resemble the model numbers that I have seen in the past.

The info. I do have is that it is a short shaft, 25hp, 1978, manual start. There is a sticker on the inside that says "1978 25H.P. Spark Advance 34°".

I would like to find out what the model # is so that I can buy a manual and see if it will be possible to add an electric start(which I think it can). Without the model # I can't find what # I need for starter/ starter solenoid/ mounting brackets etc..

I appreciate your help and thank you in advance.
Jason

Should be 25852x where x is some letter denoting model run which is meaningless to us.
