I'm in the process of moving all of Mrs Boomyal's data from her old Toshiba Laptop to her new Dell Laptop. I cannot find the directory where all of her Outlook Express Inbox emails are located. I assume that once I find and copy them I can just paste them to the same directory on the new computer and have them displayed as they were before.

Any ideas??

you can search for *.DBX there the outlook express mail files

There burried deep so its easery to just let it search

or in outlook express FILE/EXPORT/MESSAGES and copy the files into the new computer

Then you need to let the new outlook inport them and they will all be there

FILE/INPORT/MESSAGES

tommays

Re: Finding email directory?

tommays, the Toshiba laptop has 2 inbox.dbx files. They are 187 kb and 25k+ kb. The new Dell, that has just received a few new emails, only had one inbox.dbx file. Should I copy and paste all of them to the corresponding directory?

Go to the details of the dbx file and see which one has been modified the most recently, that is probly the one you want. There are probably two identities setup in outlook express, that is why you see two inbox files. Go to this web site and download the trial version of their software. It works really well and will copy everything from the outllok express and then rest it up on the new laptop. www.outlook-express-backup.com/

Re: Finding email directory?

vipzach, that is a dynomite little program. Also you were correct. The two inbox.dbx files were due to two identities on the older computer and only one identity set up on the new laptop.

I created a backup that is 48.5kb

Now all I have to do is figure out how to get my SanDisk Mini Cruzer Flash Drive to work on the Older Toshiba Laptop w/ 98se. I cannot find a driver for it on the SanDisk site. They show one driver for the 'Cruzer' but warn that it will not work for the 'mini' or 'micro' Cruzer. Indeed it does not, I tried it.

I'll have to wait till Monday to call SanDisk.

Update on USB Storage Device:

I'm stoked. Flumoxed that my SanDisk would not work on my old 98SE laptop and I could not find a driver for it on the SanDisk site, I plugged it in to my XP PC, checked in Device MGR for the drivers (they were generic Microsoft drivers) copied them to a floppy, then went and pasted them to the appropriate Windows\System32\Driver folder.

I then rebooted with the flash memory inserted and up it came with it's little drive lite on. I was then able to paste the Outlook Express back up file to it so that I can restore it to the new laptop. With this device operational, it will now make it much easier to transfer all other desired files to the new computer.
