Most problems always get linked back to Congress.

As usual, it is common to label opinion that one shares or finds comfort in as truth.

NO big surprises here. Anyone that knows the markets knows it is the traders and speculators that have been driving up prices.

And I thought it was all big oils fault.

Nothing new here. I've said it time and time again. The current price per barrel is a speculative bubble. Even the Saudi's have said there is no reason for oil to be above $70.00.

I've also said that to break that bubble, in the newly minted words of Newt Gingrich, "Drill Here. Drill Now. Pay Less."

If this keeps up I can guaran****tee you that boats will go the same way as SUV's are going. And guess what?...signifigantly fewer boats? ...no iboats either!

The moral of the story is that Americans better get up from their knees, quit worshiping Mother Earth and start demanding that their legislators do what the Constitution mandates them to do, ie start "promote(ing) the general welfare"!

Huh? It looked to me like the issue is linked to/caused by institutional investors. Congress is being asked to act on it now that "it is".

I would guess that the problem is that we are dealing with what looks to be a bubble. To put it into actions: how do you go about diffusing the bubble rather than popping it? If it is a bubble, it will end on its own. As I pointed out in another post on this topic: oil supply exceeds oil demand at this point in time. At some point, the stockpiles will reach their limit... The travesty that will happen at that point is that the same people causing the high prices now (institutional investors) will run to congress with hat in hand asking for support to keep the prices high, or for bail out money. Kinda like the other bubble we just got out of..

Tail, I have to defer to the words of Publitius Syrus who said: "Everything is worth what it's purchaser is willing to pay for it....."

Either you didn't read the article, you didn't understand it, you question the validity of the data, or you question the credentials of the author. Which is it?

BTW, "finds comfort in..." tch, tch, dangling preposition?

I don't question the data, TG. I question the conclusions.

I don't even disagree with his opinions and theories. My point is that they are opinions and theories, not facts.

I would be damned careful with personal insults, TG. I am not from what you call "the hippie generation" and I am insulted that you would try to put such a label on me.

This has turned into a controversial topic and is closed.
