Yesterday I tightened the last bolt on the thermostat cover to 30 ft. Lbs, removed all the tools off of the boat, and with that I completed my last maintenance to-do on the boat from my winter/spring list.

After winterizing the boat last November I have:

1. Installed new Bimini top.
2. Pertronix ignition conversion.
3. Carb cleaning, timing, and idle set (done by mechanic)
4. Installed fuel-water separator.
5. New thermostat.
6. Installed a power port.
7. Installed fish finder/depth sounder.
8. connected up emergency overboard switch.
9. Installed Keelshield.

Where are you all with your spring projects and what was on your to-do for this boating season?

-Rgds

I'll go:

Chris Craft 230 (purchased last year, transom rebuilt August 2012)
1. Replace lower shift cable - done
2. Replace alternator - done
3. Restore Teak wood trim parts with Epiphanes Varnish - last coat went on last night, but I may have to touch up a few spots
4. Install new Stereo, 4 new marine polk 6x9's, 2 Alpine Amps, and a Pioneer 12 - done
5. Remove cabin cushion fabric from foam and wash - will be reinstalled tonight
6. Install GPS / depth finder mount and wiring (so I can swap the head unit between my 2 boats) - done
7. Finish cleaning up engine bay, routing wires, reinstall air pump - still in process
8. Check wiring and lights, replace bulbs and fuses - in process (the necessary stuff works)
9. Many other small tasks to make boating life easier and safer
10. Tons of cleaning: vinyl, carpet, etc

11. Tickfaw 200 poker run - Will be there tomorrow - dispite the disappointing cold weather (for South Louisiana) 43 overnight low 73 daytime high

12. Try some different props - Currently have 13.75" x 21P Mercury prop - Running 45mph @ 4200 - Need to be in the 4600-4800 range

16' Louisiana Traveler:

1. Slap some new spark plugs on the old Merc 50HP and go fishing - done (and will repeat)

Re: FINALLY DONE with winter/spring projects. What do you have left?

My turn:
(Since last season)

1) Installed new manifolds and risers.
2) Distributor cap, rotor, wires, and plugs.
3) Removed old sound insulating foam from inside of engine cover, replaced with dynamat.
4) Removed stupid nuts that always come loose from back of bolts holding on upholstery panels, replaced with nylocks.
5) Engine and drive oil/lube change, oil filter, fuel filter.
6) Installed new stereo system - head unit, new 5 ch amp, speakers, sub woofer, and necessary wiring.
7) Replaced bilge pump (old one's float was broken..) with a larger model.
8) Replaced all snap fasteners on exterior of boat, old nickel/brass ones were corroded - replaced with all stainless ones.

All the above has been done, we've been splashin for a month or so now :)

Now that the weather's finally getting nice, it's about time I repaired my pier damage from Hurricane Sandy.

Boat is ready.
Put in batteries, checked over everything.

Still frustrated at the kicker motor performance in forward, but can't dwell on that now, I hear spring will be here in a month.

Haven't looked at any non boating spring projects yet.

Thought I was done but had and upper outdrive oil leak show up in the bellows. Just waiting for parts, should be done by tonight......just in time for the week-end. I've done so many jobs on the boat and trailer over the winter that I have lost count. Just looking forward to some nice weather and a few hours on the lake every week-end from now till freeze up.

Made the 2013 splash about 4 weeks ago ... already broke something! (Probably just the battery).

Once it stops snowing, I've got to bring it back from the lake place and do the general maint/cleanup. Pretty sure that there is still ice on the lake ;)

Re: FINALLY DONE with winter/spring projects. What do you have left?

We had a few good days down here in Iowa, got my Sea Ray out and washed and waxed it, new stereo, cleaned the seats and vacuumed it out really good. Just got the new spark plugs, wires and distributor cap in the mail yesterday. Snowing down here too OllieC, doubt we'll see the water any time soon. I guess I'll just keep looking at those spark plugs on the counter wishing I was putting them in and heading for the river!!!

Re: FINALLY DONE with winter/spring projects. What do you have left?

Winter is just starting down this way, so my list is growing, rather than shrinking, currently:

Things to add:
Two bilge pumps & float switches
CHIRP enabled fishfinder/chartplotter
VHF and wireless handsets.
GPS receiver
And all of the above networked.

When the breeze dies down today I'm going to be filling a few holes.

Mine has been on the slip since February. The clock just turned 18 plus hours for the season.

Re: FINALLY DONE with winter/spring projects. What do you have left?

I changed my front and rear crank seals, oil pan gasket, fuel pump gasket. Put on a pretty timing cover, rebuilt the 4 barrel.
Then I started redoing my upholstery... I just finished the sewing, which is good since it's just getting warm enough to work outside.
I should be floating in the next couple of weeks.
Jealous of all you who are splashed.

Re: FINALLY DONE with winter/spring projects. What do you have left?

I have an unusually long list this year, since it is my first year with this boat . . . lots of things to bring everything up to par and make ready for salt water boating. . . .

1) Installed closed cooling systems and sea water strainers
2) Blister repair (minor)
3) Interior and cockpit repairs - boarding gate, cabin headliner, seat base, sliding hatch mechanism, lighting fixture repair/replace, engine hatch insulation, vinyl repair
4) Replaced starboard fuel pump
5) Outdrive refurbishment & anode retro-fit
6) New spark plugs
7) VHF Radio installation
8) Anchor locker repair/refurb.
9) Bilge pump relocation, shower bilge repair, high water alarm repair
10) New battery (#2 slot), ground wiring fixes at helm
11) Bulkhead moisture remediation
12) Installed CO2 and Smoke detector
13) Barrier coat & anti-fouling paint
14) Sea water pump housings & impellers
15) New exhaust manifolds (done @ purchase last Fall)

I'm still finishing up a few things, but have scheduled my launch for May 16th. So, things are on a time line.

Re: FINALLY DONE with winter/spring projects. What do you have left?

Already took the boat out for a joy-ride after the shop did some spring maintenance.

1) replaced seal in lower unit
2) installed depth finder (which didn't run, only showed simulation)
3) new battery for trolling motor
4) replaced portable fuel tank
5) replaced fuel hose

Still to do:
1) install kicker mount on transom for trolling motor
2) pack hubs on trailer
3) install new windshields - waiting on order
4) replace running light fixtures
5) rebuild 1 sq. ft. of decking gone soft
6) then re-carpet entire deck
7) perform scientific sonar experiments on dry land to test depthfinder - will try a pan of water, bag of water, etc. to see if it is working. I want to test it okay before I take her out again.
