first a bit of backstory. Bought a boat just over a year ago now that was a known project. Hadnt been on the water for about a decade, the interior was shot, and as it turns out so was the floor. Core samples on the transom and stringers came back good, foam tested as drier than a popcorn fart, whole problem was just a thin layer of chopper gunned glass over untreated plywood, and nature and time took its toll.
project succumbed to the usual issues of fix one issue and find 10 more, so what was thought to be a monthlong project took just under a year to complete. Finally had it out on the lake for testing 2 weeks ago, and the minor issues found such as a misadjusted shifter and the carburetor needing to be fine tuned with the water backpressure were taken care of.
yesterday now it fulfilled its purpose, and the family went to the lake, and took out the boat. No leaks (a few drips when pulling the plug was all), engine and drive behaving nicely, and plenty of "HOLY COW, that hasnt been on the lakes in a decade, it looks and runs great" comments at the dock.
It may not be the belle of the ball, but its mine, it runs and most importantly, ITS PAID FOR!!!!
Before..... and after. All it takes is a little knowledge, a little skill, a LOT of time, and about 2x the money you originally budgeted..... Not bad for a $400 boat (to start with)
