New F25 first service, the manual calls for only the motor oil and lower unit to be changed in the first 20hrs. I may let the lower unit go to the end of the season but I am surprised they don't call for a oil filter change untill 100hrs. Any takers?

boat motor oil does not get the usual contaminates that automotive uses get so filter will last longer.
oil change is important because the oil looses viscosity .
why not do the fear oil , its not that much extra work.

I have to ask, what is fear oil?

I would think the 1st oil and lower lube changes are to remove the fine metal from the breakin of the motor and gears moving parts.
I would also change the filter just to get rid of the stuff it caught and clean off the magnet of the lower unit drain plug too.
but that is just the way I roll.
hope you can prove you did what was recommended so your warranty stays in good standing.

Good point on how do you document your own services, pictures of new parts and dates of service? Small engines don't have hour meters even though I know the dealer can plug in and see how many hours are on the engine.

this is why most will let the dealer do the 1st service, ust to document it was done.
but maybe receipts for the parts with dates would help for self servicing.
I also like the idea of pics with dates of servicing

You are under no obligation to prove you did the Service.

Quite the contrary, the Warrantor must prove that the failure was not a defect or malfunction and...the direct result of your action or inaction.

c) Waiver of standards: The performance of the duties under subsection (a) of this section shall not be required of the warrantor if he can show that the defect, malfunction, or failure of any warranted consumer product to conform with a written warranty, was caused by damage (not resulting from defect or malfunction) while in the possession of the consumer, or unreasonable use (including failure to provide reasonable and necessary maintenanece
