I installed a hydrofoil to my 1986 75hp Mercury and I lost 5mph and the handling was horrible. After one trip out I took it off. Should I fill the holes left from mounting and if so what would I use?

You don't have to fill the holes...

If you do want to, I would recommend using a JB Weld type material for aluminum... Tape off the bottom side of the holes and fill them with the mixture...

But If I were you, I'd just leave them alone...

Re: filling hydrofoil holes

I had the same problem with a foil I installed until I played around with the trim pin on the engine. Moving it up or down a hole or two made a world of difference! Before you fill the holes You might try experimenting a little. I install a foil on all my engines and have found them to be very helpful. Hope this helps.
