FICHT 175 #2 and #4 out

Using the drop cylinder test, # 2 and #4 appear dead. I put a spark tester on each and can see the spark in the window. It's not really a tester just an adapter you put between your plug and the plug wire. No codes were set. Swapped injectors #1 and #2, no change. #2 still dead. #1 OK with the swapped out injector. Returned them to original positions. Is there a particular spark tester I should be using? The manual mentions a spark tester. Oh, should have said, compression tests show all OK. This is an Evinrude 2001, 175. Also, how are the coils set up on this engine? How many? Manual not very clear about that. Thanks for any replies.

i don't know diddle about a ficht, can hardly say it. but if it was a conventional motor. i'd say a power pack was shot.

Tashasdaddy, it's seems ridiculous that I could have 2 bad power packs (coils) at the same time but it looks like that is where I'm going with this. I tested resistance in the one I could get to and it ohmed out properly. I am going to replace just that one first and see what happens. There is no access to the other, which is a double unit. I have to split the cowling for that.

I'd have to say I doubt that 2 coils are completely dead at the same time, but I don't think there is a power pack on these engines, I think it's all controlled by the ECM/EMM.

If you are capable enough you can try and get your hands on the software and use a laptop or PDA to read the ECM, it's really the only way you can tell what's going on with these engines. If not you can take it to a Bomby dealer and they will read the ECM/EMM for you, but it's probably an hour of labor just to get a reading.

Cricket Too, have done all that. I have software and cable. that's where the drop test came from. The actual high voltage spark comes from a coil for each cylinder.
