After a couple years of begging, my fiance is finally ready to let me get a dog. We are adopting a rescue Lab Mix named Charlie. We are picking him up after work :)

We are meeting the foster parents at a petstore to pick him up, so we can't go any earlier. So between their schedule, mine and my fiance's that is the soonest we could get him. We are really excited!

We already have three of them.

Much like my Golden Retriever ... Labs are great boat dogs. Getcha' a doggy life preserver, and a good fetching toy ... and then warm up the pitchin' arm!

Tennis balls are bad for there teeth, get rubber balls instead. The tennis balls are like sand paper to there teeth.

Good luck and cute dog.

I hope you know something about this breed of dog. They are people dogs and WILL NOT LIKE being put outside if you are inside. They love to run and chase things and very friendly and most of the time will pick one person to be its master. My sons GF has one and it even sleeps with her. They are very smart and can be a challenge but great dogs .

Take care of him and he will bring you years of companionship and joy. Labs are very friendly and strive to please their owners, they need attention and need to "work" to remain happy. Oh and excercise... lots of excercise. My Morgan in my avatar would play fetch for hours and hours till you couldnt stand to throw a ball. Shes on her last leg now with cancer, but still meets me at the door everyday for a round or 2 of fetch.

My girlfriend got up to sleep on the couch the other night...the retriever woke up and I heard his collar jingling right behind her. He sleeps as close to her as he can, even if she wakes up in the middle of the night to move, he wakes up and moves with her.

I am still loved by him...by her....by someone I think...I know my boat still loves me

Re: Fiance finally agreed to get a dog!

Well I have owned him for a couple days and I love him! The first night was a little rough, but it was more of me be nervious that he was going to pee or something. We started him in the crate and then when he wasn't happy we just put the dog bed next to ours and he was out for the entire night. I woked up at 4:30am and had to pee like a race horse, though I was worried if i got up, he would get up and wake up my fiance. At around 5am my faince woke up and used her cell as a flash light and the pooch got up to greet her. The past 2 nights were much better and I got a full night sleep, he must have a solid bladder.

The most stressful thing right now is the cats. They aren't to fond of him. So I am thinking once the cats don't care it will be much better.

As far as the dog require lots of activity. He was running around and looked like he was doing 30-40. He appears to be the dog that is pretty relaxed and snoozes a lot, then becomes active when you want him. We are pretty active and have trails behind our house. He is okay at fetch, though I am still working on it. I need to finish the invisible fence. I am the type of person that does a lot of activites that I can take the dog with me.

So far he has only had one accident and that was in the first 5 mintes of being in the house. My fiance likes him too, though she feels bad for the cats, even though they are being mean to him.

Congrats on the new family member. Beautiful dog. Give him attention and treat him with kindness and he will reward you with a lifetime of joy and companionship.

We just had our dog Jake (also a lab cross that looked just like Charlie) put to sleep yesterday after 14 years with us. It was the hardest decision I`ve ever had to make, and the worst day of my life but I treasure every day he spent with us, and he has given us a lifetime of memories.

Just remember to hide your neighbors shoes on rainy days. I learned this one the had way and cost me a bundle. Labs love to find things and bring them home to chew on.

Friend. Sorry to hear of your loss. At least you can be comforted knowing how good your poochie had it . We had a yellow lab and his health went bad at around 12 years and we went through the same thing. 14 years is great . Best wishes.Dogs are truely mans best friend. To prove it a person can lock his dog and wife in the trunk of his car and after 5 minutes see which one will jump into his arms with kisses when he lets them out:)
