Since we're on the subject of fuel injection does anyone see a problem with installing a mutiport injection system on a 305 cu.in. for added horse power and torque? Edelbrock sells one for about $2000 for the complete package.

I'd Do It, But I doubt It'll Pass the C.G. Test

Hey Bondo; Thanks for the reply. Exactly which items wouldn"t pass c.g. test? What does marine multi-port have that auto wouldn't besides adding flame arrester. Since the throttle body just takes in air would that not be safer than carb

thanks Vettman

vettman.. Only problems that I can think of would be with the distributor and fuel pump...

I don't know if the edelbrock system's distributor conversion kit will fit in, or work with any of the marine distributors available for your 305...

The fuel pump might need to be "marine rated" or USCG approved... Holley does sell a pump for marine EFI applications that meets the necessary requirements..

As for adding torque and HP, I doubt you'll add too much HP on a 305 (10HP maybe), but the cold starts and overall better performing engine, not to mention better fuel economy would be a great benefit with EFI...

The Holley marine Pro-jection and Turbo city's marine TBI kit for SB chevy would be more cost effective ways to improve performance and still remain "legal" in the eyes of the USCG... ;)

www.turbocity.com
Pro Jection

One more thing I forgot to mention is reguarding Insurance... I you had an incident or explosion due to improper engine parts that were not marine rated, your insurance co. would not cover any damages, and you would be liable for injurys, damages, ect... Could get ya in some Hot Water... something to think about...

Oh no, I'm starting to sound like a Lawyer... :(

Search for a crate marine engine, if it is a Mercury, www.boatered.com had a deal on engines. You could also try Capt Ken Nelson in Panama City for a repower engine, and Iboats
