I was just on a sailboat in the US & BVI's where the boat had a dingy with a 40hp Honda outboard. When this dingy was in the water, you could feel a "tingle" in the water around the outboard, so there is some type of electrical short to the case of the outboard that extends through to the water. We replaced the cable from the battery switch to the starter/solenoid thinking there may be a pinhole break in the insulation that was sending current through the shift/throttle cable to the motor, but that didn't help. If there is something inside the motor that is shorted out, then that is a major tear-down to find it. Has anyone seen anything like this or have any ideas before we go that route?
