Normally FEDEX is on the ball, but not this time.
I ordered a new outboard motor for my boat and since it shipped it has shown it would be here on 12/31/2015. The only thing I was told by the shipper was that I had to be here to sign for it due to the value.
I waited and waited all day and never saw a FEDEX truck so I called the local depot.
They informed me that it was FEDEX Freight and would not be delivered until I had an appointment and that they would call me. So why did they not call me??? They were in the offices when I called them at 4 PM today locally.
I told them the corporate website showed delivery today and I have been standing by and have had no phone call either. He informed me rather rudely that they don't make deliveries on New Years and I challenged that with the fact that the corporate website shows delivery today. Nothing. Playing dumb cannot hurt can it????
Somebody else came online and said they will deliver Monday. I told them I wanted it as early as I could get it as I had things to do Monday that I had put off waiting for this shipment.
I filed a complaint with corporate for all the good it will do. I will also notify the shipper that FEDEX failed to deliver/notify on time in this instance as he pays the shipping which I am sure is not cheap.

FEDEX is all independent contractors for the most part. I waited for a package and twice when I checked where it was it listed as tried to deliver but no one was home. To make it worst I was installing siding on my house those two days and one of the days I was working in the front yard. Called the manager in Jeffersonville IN and complained. They guy came out the next day and confronted him. He said he came to the front door and rang the door bell, my response was "I DON'T HAVE A DOOR BELL" and I was in the front yard most all day and two hours on either side of when you said you tried to deliver it.

The guy didn't want to drive into my area to deliver (to far) so he made it up

Never had any trouble with UPS, USPS or DHL

No contractors here and they make good money locally as does UPS. I had lots of trouble with UPS when I lived rural in SE AZ but never FEDEX.
I told FEDEX corporate to let me manage that office for 30 days locally and they will shape up or need new employees!.

And now with the formal complaint filed against the local depot, if my motor shows up with a damaged box I will photograph it and decline the shipment and have it returned for inspection and damages. I don't trust the local punks at this point as I am sure the depot manager will most likely get his butt chewed over this affair.
Just seems funny that corporate showed delivery today but the local office didn't seem to care.

Its the holidays, w severe weather in the midwest.

Delays happen

It isnt ideal, but given you've got a brand new engine headed your way, things could be worse, much worse.

Congrats on the new motor and have a happy new year

I would give them a benefit of a doubt. I mean those folks were working their butts off trying to get all the Christmas delivered on time. Inconvenienced? Of course, but not a Earth shattering ordeal. Lighten up a little and live longer. Start the New Year off with a smile and an apologetic attitude....it is contagious and you will receive it Monday. Not a life catastrophe. Life is good and things could always be worst. JMHO!

I am in AZ. The motor arrived yesterday in Phoenix just 100 miles down the road. No excuses. it left Phoenix at 1:30 AM for my town with no WX problems here. I also had the website set up to notify me of exceptions to delivery and got nothing.

keninaz, I am not trying to cause any issues here, honestly. But thing really could be a lot worst. My friends and neighbor passed away Christmas morning around 10:00AM. So yes take life a little easy and use a smiling attitude. Things can always be worst. JMHO!

Well, get good and riled up by Mon then, when you might be able to talk to a person at their office, see where it gets you.

High blood pressure and a cranky disposition

It happened. Delays happen.

Is this the motor you ordered when you couldnt get a mail order Mercury?

I've shipped dozens of motors and had 100% good luck with FedEx and about 50/50 with UPS. One time I received a motor from DHL and just happened to be looking out the window when the truck arrived. I saw the guy in the back of the truck just throw the (heavy) motor out on the concrete driveway from about 5 feet up. The box was crushed and the motor's gas tank was smashed beyond repair. Naturally, DHL wouldn't honor the insurance, but lucky for me the seller refunded my entire purchase price.

I deal with FedEx a lot with parts for onsite computer warranties. They send out a part at 6pm at night and I have it at 8:30am. Only once was anything delayed.

Your gonna hear a lot of pros and cons about fedex vs ups but the real issue I see is the fact that they made it clear that it was to be delivered on a certain date. I could fully understand a delay for a variety of reasons....but why not upgrade that information on the website!!! That is their job!! In my personal experiences I have had much greater success with ups over fedex. For many years I was a gunsmith and always preferred my customer use ups, but in many cases they chose to use fedex on their own. In many cases guns were left in the driveway in the rain by fedex without a signature as I live in a rural area. Never had a gun left without a signature by ups! I even reported it to the authorities about dropping off without a signature but NOTHING was ever done about it. Needless to say I had a few claims with fedex....if you think their delivery is slow...file a claim once!

They all have problems.

My son sent me some King Crab from Alaska for my birthday and Christmas. It was packed frozen with some dry ice. UPS said it would be delivered on the 22nd. They kept it an extra day in Anchorage before shipping it then it went of Kentucky before coming back to Spokane. I got it on the 24th with it still cold but not hard frozen. It's delicious so all is OK.

I think all the shippers had trouble this Christmas season.

Freight is different then small packages. Freight always call before delivery and then still don't show sometimes. I used to drive hundreds of miles to meet LTL shipments with a call ahead and 10 to 20% of the time they wouldn't show.

The small packages are contract trucks in my area.

AllDodge, the only reason I stated about my friend and neighbor passing away on Christmas day was to show the OP that things can be so much worst and to take things is stride. I mean to get all upset about something that is going to work itself out, is really unneeded and silly when you compare serious issues that people face. That's all. Worry about things to worry about and forget the things that only raise your blood pressure. Have a great day! :thumb:

Delivering things is their job. Lots of factors can affect that job, but at no point do I feel it warants indifference or a poor attitude towards their customers. If you can't accomplish the task you spend a considerable amount of advertising dollars claiming to be the best at, then you should be as apologetic and nice to your customer as can be. It's rarely the end customers fault so if they are upset, as the op has a right to be, the last thing you should be as the delivery company who failed to fulfill your job duty is short or indifferent with the customer.

This type of attitude towards customers is becoming all to common in customer service these days. As a company you should " Do What You Say You are going to do ", and if you can't for whatever reason make it as right as possible.

That's how I run my business.

Now that doesn't necessarily give the customer the right to abuse the companies employees. Keep in mind we are all only human, and if you encounter someone who is genuinely sorry, and who is doing all they can to fix the issue, you should let some of your frustration subside or at least not direct it towards the one who is trying to help you.

Just my 1 and 1/2 cents worth.

FEDEX has different divisions, yours was shipped by FEDEX Freight, which has different freight classes, yours was probably shipped economy. Your shipper should have provided you with a tracking number. Using that tracking number, you could have tracked your outboard motor the entire route, including what trailer it was on. You then could have contacted the nearest delivery terminal, to arrange a delivery. LTL trucking companies do not load a trl with local freight until they know someone will be there to receive it and sign for it.
