fd-11 lower unit

hello, I'm trying to drop the lower unit on a Johnson seahorse 18hp 1957' and something is holding it up .i removed all bolts gear case to shaft housing and loosened the shift rod clamp screw . how does it separate at clamp screw on shift rod ? don't want to force it .there is no corrosion it's an old fresh water motor in great shape just sitting for 27 years. thanks for any help

you need to remove 1 of the screws,usually bottom,the screw goes thru a slot in the shaft,you will better understand when removed,again ,take a screw out
