Hi all -

Taking a cue from the "Arizona Lakes" thread, what are your favorite boating destinations in Utah? Maybe even list your favorite single-day destinations as well as your favorite multi-day destinations. Pics are always welcome! I'm really missing the warm weather and the ability to boat on a regular basis. Please help me put some ideas together for next season.

Some possibilities (to get the ball rolling): Bear Lake, Flaming Gorge, Starvation, Jordanelle, Deer Creek, Yuba Lake, Sand Hollow, Lake Powell, etc.

Thanks!

Re: Favorite Boating Destination in Utah

I'm sure there are a ton of Great spots in Utah, BUT Lake Powell is my favorite anywhere.

The attached pictures were taken about 1976. The quality is poor because I had to scan them in from 35mm photographs. The Kids are Grown & Gone and my Wife passed away several yeatrs ago. Life goes on & must be lived. I've got a Wonderful New Partner, the same Boat I had then & we're going in April. Anyone want to Buddy Boat you're welcome to join us.

Re: Favorite Boating Destination in Utah

Bart - Without rival, Lake Powell is the best, but it is 8 hrs tow from my home in Layton Utah. My First Mate and I head to the Gorge often, even rented a seasonal slip there last year (never do that again). Pine View and Jordanelle are too busy, Strawberry has good fishing, but the water is too cold to play in. Willard Bay has far too many bugs. My favorite local lake is East Canyon, but it can get quite busy with fishermen (obstacles) and skiers.

Thanks for the replies! I, too, love Lake Powell, but I'm in Lindon and I REALLY have to want it before I'll pull the boat that far. So, I only end up at Powell every so often. I know that this probably won't be popular among the purists, but I'm at Utah Lake on a regular basis (weekly). Lindon has it's own marina and I can be on the lake in under 15 minutes. It's great for the spontaneous side of me that decides, driving home from work, that I need to be on the water. However, on the weekends, I really prefer something more scenic - and I like to camp.

Lately, the 2 hour drive to Starvation has been well worth it for a two- or three-day trip. Flaming Gorge is another favorite of mine, but it's a lot of work to pull the boat up all those switchbacks outside of Vernal. Maybe I should try going out through Evanston?

Anyway, please keep the posts coming!

Tell me where you go and why.

Thanks!

- Bart
