What year is this model, s/n?
18602C-E12819
I recently retrieved it from the bottom of the lake a week after it went down while running:eek:, (long story).
I immediately pulled the plugs and oiled up the cylinders and anything else I could, carb, linkage etc.
I got it running (with a double oil mix) and it seems to run fine, but I don't think the water pump is working because the shaft gets awfully hot after a few minutes of running. I think the water's supposed to exit out the exhaust port up high on the shaft and there doesn't seem to be much if anything in the way of water coming out of it, just exhaust. Is that where the water should pump out on this outboard?
Thanks.

Hmmmm, Doesn't seem like a good dunking could harm the water pump or thermostat in any way. I presume your running it in a barrel? Are you sure you have enough water in it? It needs to be full enough to completely submerge the water pump itself. Not just the water intakes. I like to see it up to the level of the lower mounts myself. Good luck!

something to consider,I have had some issues with impeller breakdown because,I filled up the barrell, manytimes I got a lot of fuel ,oil gas ,exhaust crap in the water,I had impellers lose their ability.Maybe your not pumping good, you can pull the thermostat and see what kind of flow you get at that point, with the cover off, dont remove the thermo completly if you decide to run without, your better to remove the moving parts of a thermo and put the top back for some resistance, the water is supposed to come out that hole you speak about, but remember too not much will come out til the thermo opens,at that point the eng may be warmer than normal til the cooler water runs it cool

Thanks guys. I'm running it in a barrel with the water almost to the engine mounts, so plenty in there. It does have a pretty good slime going on top now that I was running it a bit, but not enough to damage the impellor I wouldn't think.
Where's the thermostat at? In the shaft or up at the power head?

It's very easy to drop the LU and check the water pump also. Takes 10 min.
