Fastwin 18 overheated

'Tis the boating season!

Got my motor running yesterday. The problem was a bad plug wire. I took off across the lake yesterday at WOT (yeah, I know now) and it suddenly lost power and died over a 5 second span. I never tried to restart the motor until this morning, and it started and ran well, but got warm fairly quick. I have a good stream of water coming out the outlet.

I tried to order a water pump from iboats, but they don't list the part. Is this going to be a hard part to find? I'm also going to order a new thermostat kit.

I bought the SELOC manual, but it hasn't been much help. I understand I need to retorque the head bolts and replace the water pump, but is there anything else I should do?

18902

Is there a procedure I can do to see if the cooling lines are blocked up? I don't have the part (nozzle?) that is shown in the manual.

OK, Sierra 18-3002 is the impeller for all 1953-65 15 and 18 horse JohnnyRudes. You can order it at any NAPA dealer or online at places like marineparts.com.

I guess that's the one you need, even without the model.

The Thermostat is Sierra 18-3672...for all models of 18 hp (and a lot of others, too).

Hope that helps.

Did you mean the year model? If so, that's a 1969. It's an 18 horsepower.

OK...I didn't know they made an 18 in 1969, but that's OK. The same parts are still called for, as described above.

I changed out the thermostat and bought an impeller. Right now, the existing impeller is pumping a steady stream of water at idle.

Would it be wise to go ahead and put the new one on anyway? What about the seals on the lower unit? They aren't available anymore. What should I use?
