Hey there I'm going to be checking timing on this motor and by reading a 4 year old blog from another sight it was mentioned about disabling the fast start feature on this motor if it has one. Can anyone tell me how to identify if I have this feature on my motor?

A 1976 engine wouldn’t have anything like a fast start feature, except for a fast idle speed control lever on the control box. That won’t matter as the throttle cable is usually unhooked when timing is being checked/adjusted. How long have you had that engine?

It's sort of a sore subject right now. Only 2 months. I have been combating several issues with this motor.
Starting with fuel problems. Leaky fuel pump. Replaced. All fuel lines. Replaced. Rebuild all 3 carbs. Coil wire on center cylinder kept coming loose. Coil kit with new wire replaced. Perform compression test, All good. Hard starting and once she does i can get full throttle from remote. Idle back down she idles high and can only bring idle back down by moving the spark advance lever to the left by hand. Lots of stuff. I think that the guy that had this boat before me screwed up a lot of adjustments and checking timing and spark is my next thing to tackle on my list. I'm about to loose my marbles. I know that my dissertation is pretty complicated. I'm searching for a lot of answers. Any help is appreciated!

There is no " quick start " on that motor.-------You have to do some checking and understanding on these motors.----First a weak battery is BAD for starting.----Starter must be inspected and in good shape !----Battery cables must be good.----Slow cranking means there will be weak spark and no start !!-----Just adjust the black thingy on the cable so it pulls against the idle stop.

I might need to rephrase the starting part of it. We touched base on another post about some of my issues, that's fine. The motor cranks very strong so there are no battery, starter or cable issues. I did play around with the adjustment on the cable as you indicated on the other post. I was just responding back to jimmbo while inquiring about quick start. With all I have done on this motor thus far it seems to me as if the spark advance is out of wack somehow. I viewed another blog on another sight this morning and someone else out there had the same motor with the same exact issues that I am having 4 years ago and found the responses to be interesting and gave me a few more ideas. One thing that was mentioned in this blog was about checking timing and to make sure that the motor didn't have quick start before attempting this. This entire blog on the other sight was answered by Joe Reeve, hope I'm spelling it correctly. I am going to try a few things that he mentioned to see if I have any improvements. One of the checks that I will make along the way is spark I borrowed a spark tester from a co worker of mine and just trying to rule out things one step at a time. I he also mentioned a few things with checking the butterflies on all 3 carbs to make sure the are all equally adjusted at idle position to make sure that one is not slightly open ahead of the other two. Yes its a lot of stuff and hopefully this weekend I will have more results with my tinkering.
I appreciate all of the help and sure that I will chiming back in!!

Thanks much and if you think of anything else let me know :)
