fast idle 1987 50hp johnson

I was wondering if anyone has the the answer to my motor keeping a fast idle to fast to troll and grinds when shifting gears. The fast idle is off and can be slowed down by removing lid and move linkage, but idles fast as soon as you let go. any ideas and it does have an oil alarm that has gone off once or twice, it stops after restart. The motor runs great otherwise thanks

Move the trunion on the throttle cable to bring the linkage aginst the idle stop screw. If it is already, the back out the idle stop screw until you get the idle to 700 to 750 in gear.<br /><br />Good luck!
