I have a friend, who has a daughter, which just started grade 1.
Would you, as a parent, let your child watch that animated show "Family Guy"?
Personally, I would not. I find the show repulsive.

Would you, as a parent, let your child who is going into the first grade, watch that show?

She thinks that since it is a cartoon, it is okay for her daughter to watch it.

What is your opinion?

Re: Family Guy

Kinda mixed feelings. My daughter is 10, in the 5th grade. I will let her watch it but keep an eye on it also.

Re: Family Guy

Nope. Simpsons maybe. Family Guy no way. It's got too much adult material. For reference, I have 2 teenage daughters who watch it, but sometimes I wish they didn't...

Re: Family Guy

I agree with the general consensus here, NOPE....I own all the seasons on DVD and have seen every single episode and I can honestly say the themes and jokes arent age appropriate.

[ edit: im only 20 if that makes a difference]

Re: Family Guy

I told my friend to watch an episode and then judge for herself. She does not like to watch TV, but decided to watch one episode and see.
If she does not think this is a bad show for a child to watch, I am going to print this off and show her what everyone's opinion here is.

So, PLEASE, everyone, write a response, so I can show her, if she lets her child watch the show.

Thanks,
B.C.

No way. I'm surprised they can show it when they do on broadcast TV.

Re: Family Guy

personally, my favorite show. freakin' hillarious.

I wouldn't want my kid watching it under 12 years old at minimum though.
Much of the humor isn't appropriate for those under 16, but I'm sure they don't get most of the subtle adult jokes.

Re: Family Guy

I don't mean to side track this thread, but as you know we have an 11yr old after-thought and in this house, TV is a reward, not a right.
He has other interests, which are all outside, and he is out their at dawn and has to be in for dinner.
TV has never been our 'babysitter'. He does like Frazier, Dancing with the Stars and Gardening Australia.
In my opinion, it is how you bring them up, and 90% of TV is a mindless medium.
Cheers
Phillip

Funny show - not a kids cartoon. For the past 2 years (i think) it has been on the "Adult Swim" timeslot of Cartoon Network.

That should tell you everything right there.

Sean

I dont let my 9 yr old watch it. I doubt I will let him watch it till age 14 (kinda difficult at that age, but I will try)

He only gets to watch the Simpsons.

Ken

It insults my intellegence.

Not to mention the animation quality is "third grade". Or what used to be third grade.

Wow. I geuss I have never seen the really bad episodes. The laungauge is harsh but I haven't seen what ya'll are referring to. I will have to rethink letting my daughter watch it. She has only seen it a few times so cutting it out is not a big deal. Thanks for enlightening me.

Yes, thanks everyone for your input.
Since starting this thread, my friend has watched an episode, and her daughter will no longer be watching the show anymore.
Thanks again!

Re: Family Guy

Family Guy is Rude and Crude in it’s social/political/sexual humor, and to me, 54 years old, hilariously funny. Not for kids though. Anyone see the ending fight scenes from ‘Lethal Weapons’ (2001) where New Yorkers invade the town in the fall and Lois hones her martial arts skills?… especially in the bar scenes.

And one of my favorites, ‘I am Peter Hear Me Roar’. Where Peter finds his feminine side when he is sent to a woman’s treatment for sensitivity training… after telling a joke to a woman at work: “Do you know why woman have boobs?…So we have something to look at while we are talking to ya…. Ehehehe Eheheheh Eheheheheh”. When he returns home after two weeks of brainwashing, there is on the back of his car a bumper sticker; ‘My Other ***** IS A Vagina’ After hugging and spinning the whole family off their feet, overly touchy and feely, (“I am SO glad to see you… I missed you SO much!”), Peter realizes he has broken a nail, and prances up the steps and through the front door. Chris says after him, dumbfounded, … “Oh, no, Dad Is a Chick!”.

Re: Family Guy

I saw the uncut specials already. My brother downloaded them off the internet. Seems weird, they actually make reference to people watching pirated versions, almost as if thats the way they intended for them to be released...

Anyway, they were hillarious! I can't think of a scene that would be fit for TV compared to the regular family guy. A must watch for fans of the show.

:)

Re: Family Guy

have an almost 6yo at home, no WAY he can watch family guy, that is a PG13 all the way.

We used to watch simpsons until he started to pay attention, so can't watch that anymore.

Our simple tv rule in the house is simple, he can watch what PBS has showing, or pick out a movie that we have when it is tv time.

Every night, he gets to watch something for about a half hour before he goes to bed. Last night, we were watching the new Cat in the hat movie, with Mike Myers.... It's VERY strange, but was watching it with him, nothing too bad, just strange...

Until: The cat jumps over a fence, there is a Hoe in the hard,,,,, Grabs the hoe and says: YOU DIRTY HOE!

He repeted it, no idea what it meant, but found it funny.... I havn't seen the rest of the movie, if the rest is clean, he can still watch it, and he is very aware that if he EVER says it, the dvd gets broken, no 2nd chance.

We cancled Cable at our house because there was nothing on that wasn't CRAP anymore.

We hit the library every couple weeks and get a few new movies.

He watched Old Yeller for the first time last week, and loved it..... back when they knew how to make movies.

When I was his age, and that was only 20 years ago, I remember every sunday night there was a disney movie on, FLubber, Herby the love bug etc....

The banned show list at our house is very long...
