For me fall is the very best time to fish for bass. Water cooling , and the hogs putting on the feedbag for the winter layover. Around here it gets real good from mid October and stays pretty good till about the beginning of December.

I'll fish with jigs and spinnerbaits mostly this time of year, but on a good day they seem to hit everything you throw!

Whats it like in your neck of the woods?

Absolutely my favorite time of the year to be on the water. First of all, the fall foliage is beautiful, second , the fishing picks up when the water begins to cool down. The extra bonus is the number of other boaters drops dramatically after labor day. Fewer idiots, no jet fleas. Life is good. :D :D :D

The white bass & hybrids will start to get a good slab bite on, that's just fun. The seagulls will return from the Gulf to Lake Texoma and stripers get active. And yeah, holdim, I'll go back out on a couple lakes I avoid like the plague during the summertime pleasureboating season. And you can stay on the lake past 10:30am without getting heatstroke.

Re: Fall fishing

You know Flahthead, you jinxed me telling me I cant catch a hog. I hooked the biggest bass I have ever had on this afternoon. [Of course it was, I never saw it]. :D Anyway, it was off a rocky point and I was throwing a jig in about 12 feet of water. It was on my flippin stick and I couldnt move it. It wasnt wound up as it was moving side to side. Then the line just went slack. Man, I could have cryed. Caught a nice four pounder yesterday evening though.

I cant wait for some more rain, I love it when the lake comes up and there is that place between the weedline and the bank where the new grass has grown durring the summer and all the pads are about a foot under the surface. Water temps are at about 67 from a high of about 75. Turn over should be just around the corner. :D

Man o man, you guys have me all fired up! I have never fished in the fall. I have only been fishing for 12 years, and in North Carolina, Sept. 1 meant dove hunting and so on and so forth. But to tell you the truth I love fishing more than hunting. Now I have my own bass boat and am in TX, I couldnt ask for anything more.

Re: Fall fishing

I still set some time aside for the archery season. Have my eye on a nice ten point that shows up here every now and again. But to tell the truth I seem to fish more than I hunt in October these days. Used to be I would be out in the stand just about every evening, and all day on Saturday. Now a few hours on stand, and a few hours on the water seems to suit me nicely.

LD A four pounder aint to shabby for a northern bass, I'll take one any day of the week.

Re: Fall fishing

Fishing around here is great from September on. Only gets better in October. I've been throwing the jig relentlessly lately. Caught 22 bass today, lost a good one that hung me up over a tree branch. Great action lake, but hard to find good size. :( Can't wait to go out tomorrow morning! Weather is going to be perfect - I'm salivating just thinking about it.

I've only fished since last fall, but I know a lot more then I did then, so I'm looking forward to putting my knowledge to use this fall. I hope to fish clear into November just before first ice.
