I've got a small bowrider w/85hp o/b. It has the factory swim platform w/pull out ladder. I've noticed that it drags in the water quite a bit, real bad if I'm in the back (buddy driving) & lean toward that side. Is this normal? This must be slowing top speed I would think. Last time I checked (GPS), I was around 35-36 mph. Comments??

If it drags then your boat is probably heavy. Have you checked for soaked flotation, stringers or transom? Do you have extra weight at the rear of the boat? At rest does it sit low in the water?
The reason I say this is no boat design would put the platform in a spot where it would impede the boats movement.
The platform should not drag. I'd say it is a concern, might be an easy fix like removing weight.
36 mph is not bad for an 85 horse. I wonder what speed it is at when it's on plane?

Nah... they drag on various models. If you look around, there are numerous boats that allow the platform to drag a bit. Ideal design? Nope... but neither are pickup trucks for cutting through the wind.

If the overall design of the boat doesn't permit the platform to be located differently, then the manufacturer decided that the cost of a couple MPH (if that) is worth it.

Lots of recreational vehicles don't shoot for top speed by design.
