Recently i used Precsion props recomendations on a prop. I filled out the on line form gave them the dimesion's & weight along with how the boat preforms @ wot and what i was looking for as to results.

What they sent me was a Stilletto Bay Pro2 20 pitch four blade prop, and this thing is huge, it is actually larger than my 21 pitch Michigan wheel (Taller & wider)

Now dont get me wrong here but my concern is this is way to much prop, do i just try it out or do i just tell them tooooooooo much here and get a different pitch?

The boat is 1710 Starcraft open bow

1 1300lbs dry
2 Mercruiser 3.0l 2:1 gears 4400-4800 mf's rating
3 17'
4 3 blade 21 pitch michigan wheel 4800 rprm @42mp
5.^ no hole shot poor sking (real arm builder)
6 19 pitch 3 blade MW 5100 rpm @ 37 mph
7 good hole shot but vents on turn easy
8 both props are alumiun
9 Tach is correct but the speedo is probably off
8 God id hate to waste money

Re: Factory Recomendations

:D No not at all, im just a bit reluctant to put it into the water. Im really assuming that it is far to big (pitch, cupping, displacement etc) If i dont use it can return it,and if i do use it well im a owner. And before i do i am looking for a few opinion's such as yours. And judging from your reply i assume you see no issue here. The thing is huge and looking @ there own web site it states 150hp I/O's............ God id hate to have that as a wall flower.

Re: Factory Recomendations

Why do you say the pitch is "far too big" when it's not as much as the 21 Michigan? Yes, it probably has slightly more cupping than the Michigan but that's one reason it'll bite better. Are you talking about the amount of cupping or the length of cupping?

I'm not really sure what you mean by it has more displacement. Do you mean rake angle? If so, again thats a good thing. Or do you mean diameter? It should be 14 1/4" just like the other props. Unless you're running 13 1/4" diameter props now. If so, no wonder you're looking for better performance.

Or by displacement do you mean blade area? That would seem logical that the Stiletto has more blade area beacuse it has 1 more blade.

I don't know what you're reading but that series prop is designed for "most 150 horsepower & up outboards and sterndrives". It doesn't say "150 hp I/o's".

Trust me, props is one area that you cannot tell anything about performance by looking.

Re: Factory Recomendations

Perhaps my terminology is a bit off here but
there is a web site chart

BAY PRO I 70 TO 140 HP
----------------------
13 1/4 X 13 14413 14213
13 1/4 X 15 14415 14215
13 1/4 X 17 14417 14217
13 1/4 X 19 14419 14219 < That seems better suited
-------------------------------------------------

BAY PRO II 150+ HP NEW Bay PRO III PRO-4 BASS
------------------------------------------------
14 1/4 X 18 15418
14 1/4 X 20 15420 < This is what i recieved
14 1/4 X 22 15422
-------------------------------------------------

Perhaps im over thinking this, ive just have invested so much into this restoration and it seems there is still so much to go, i have to start being a little prudent here....
;)

Re: Factory Recomendations

Why do you think going down in diameter is better?

Re: Factory Recomendations

I am or was caught up in two things, first the phyiscal size and the rated hp for that type of prop.

Im just going to run the prop and see what happens, im sure i can sell it on ebay if i so choose that is if it bogs things down.

If im wrong on this it will delay some nice electronics, im just trying to get it right the first time.
