Since Facebook opened its doors to non school alumni ( ie, the rest of us folks ), I was wondering how many here were using it?

I was on Myspace only because of peer pressure ( wife ) and it's a good way to leave messages for my brother ( no phone at the time ) and just get stuff off my chest ( blogs ).

I'm on Facebook more than I ever was on Myspace, I think mostly due to the fact that you have a much more mature audience/user base.

I've found old neighborhood friends, old acquaintenances and classmates I haven't talked to or heard from in years, and more are coming out of the wood work!

Anyone else use Facebook? It would be a nice thing to help strengthen the bonds you may have lost with your family abroad, etc and is a good way to send out a general message to folks.

It'd be pretty cool to have a few iboaters as friends also ;)

Re: facebook

I tried it and found it difficult to navigate. Don't know anyone on it so don't use it. And now with the privacy scare and controversy this past week. I guess it's just as well.

Re: facebook

never been there,

Neither have i, the neighborhood is a bit crowded, i can never allow myself to freely let my image and information become the property of another to do with as they may or may not choose to.
Folks need to start reading those tiny strings of letters prior to hitting the AGREE button.

No Thanks, I'm not interested. I don't like the idea someone that doesn't even know you can post some inflammatory statements. It seems as the older generation is more cautious about ruining their future lives than the younger generation. Things in print can be used in just about any court. Someday it will be where people will be held accountable for their actions again.

my wife and i use it all the time. i've caught up with old friends, school mates, family. there is also local buy and sell on it. the good thing is you can adjust settings so not just anyone can see your profile.

Re: facebook

I joined around New Years. Found about a dozen friends from school and military I reunited with. Share photos and stories with them. Only post and share what I choose to be public. Great tool for reconnecting with those you lost contact with. I'm conversing again with the kid who lived up the block from me and sat next to me in Kindergarden. He moved away in 6th grade and we lost contact for 30+ years.

Re: facebook

I never use my real name on the internet. Not even at this site. Only my personal email has my real name on it and I don't give that to anyone except personal friends.

Re: facebook

I really can't see any of my acquaintances using facebook(could be wrong) and I really only have 3 friends I married one, grew up with one,met one after high school so if I need to talk to them 2 out of the 3 I call the third gets personal time:D, maybe I should check to see if I know anyone besides my daughters on that thing ;) Mama did name me eaglejim:D

Re: facebook

I think it's really caught on with my age group ( mid 30's ) recently, though I'm sure there is a great element of younger folks there also. What I like is the fact that I don't get all the random "friends requests" from people hocking their porn links or whatever that I got on myspace. Apparently all you need to have there is the fact that you are a male to get them flooding your inbox.

And for those worried about what you say being used against you in the future, they can do it even if you think you have anonymity, all they have to do is trace your username to your IP address and go from there. You are never 100% an unknown to those that have the tools and the resources. The administrators of this site can pull up information that the rest of us have no access to. Wouldn't take much to find how many people seperate you from Kevin Bacon in this world ;)

Re: facebook

Facebook doesnt protect your identity. Two local teachers were fired when one said she didnt like her students and the other had a picture of her drinking a beer at a party......Facebook can let "big brother" into your life. I dont like peoples getting into my besnussses.

Re: facebook

Well, some people are dumb enough to post things online that can get them into trouble. How many teenagers have been busted because they bragged to their buddies online or posted a video of their antics on Myspace? Those that think before they act shouldn't have any issues with it.

Re: facebook

I got on the Facebook to look for a co-worker who quit after I retired.

Since then, my DIL and her family, my son, have signed up. Then I hooked with a couple of friends of mine from around the world.

I don't post what I wouldn't want others to see anyway.

Re: facebook

I have heard of employers going to Facebook to see what their emplyees were doing and saying, parents joining Facebook and myspace and making their children make them friends so they could keep up with what they were doing and who they were talking to. If you don't want anyone to know do not post it in public, even if your profile is set to private it is not because you allow certain people to see it and they repeat what they see on your site or show others what is on your site, some share login info so they can check others friends out, so you are not safe with anything you post on the net.
