I just got back from an evening cod fishing. I have a 2015 f90 Yamaha that up till now hasn't given me any problems. I've had it for the last 2 years. Anyway, on the way home this evening the motor seemed to stumble and stall out while under way. she started back up after a few tries both times. Earlier in the evening I had noticed a strong exhaust smell a few times when I had started her to move and made nothing of it as I just thought the wind was blowing toward me, but I hadn't noticed that before. I haven't had a chance to check anything yer as its getting dark. I'll check for water in the fuel separators, but other then that I'm new to outboards and was wondering if anyone had any ideas what could be wrong?

maybe leaking fuel out of pump or lines, or maybe wrong rail pressure, or stuck open injectors dumping fuel

I had a look this evening. The water separator was good, no water but the gas I poured into a clear jar did look rather hazy, like maybe fine particles. I'll change the filter. However I did notice that the flexable rubber gas line going into the filter had a sharp bend in it and may have been at least partially kinked off. I rerouted it so it has less bend and no kink. Hopefully thats all it was and I got lucky!

Its not the bend in the line.Change fuel water sep.Check the fuel that you poured out of the sep after it sits for an hour or so .You cannot tell if there is any water immediately. The old fuel will separate into layers.Change the fuel filter as well.If same issue, change out the fuel pump/pumps.If its a 2 stroke the pumps are cheap and easy to change out.Charlie
