F9.9 pops and sputters when cold

Have a 2001 F9.9ELRZ that when first started will idle fine,until I try to raise the RPM's.When I attempt to raise the RPM's the motor will pop and sputter,and some times die.This will persist until the motor gets hot.After the motor cools somewhat it will do the same thing all over again.The motor has the electrothermal valve used to enrich the motor when cold.<br />Any idea's?

If the motor has been used infrequently or has been stored for a while, most likely the passageways inside the carb, and the jets, are restricted or plugged with dried fuel deposits (varnish). That is very common this time of year and in the spring after sitting thru a long winter. The very small check balls on the accelerator pump are probably stuck also.
