F50 repair or replace

Hi,
I have a 2002 F50 that needs carb repairs quoted at 1200.00.
My problem with this is I was also told the compression on all cylinders is 50 lbs.
So if this is true, should I replace the Yamaha with another 50 hp motor (roughly 6k) or repair the carbs and assume the low compression is nothing to worry about. I don't want to enter a cycle of rebuilds on this motor.
thanks,
BrettW

Re: F50 repair or replace

A 50 psi compression reading in all cylinders probably means that the person did not open the throttle while taking the reading.

A compression test does not tell the whole story, a leakdown test is what is recommended. Find a trained Yamaha mechanic.

that engine? carb job is about a 5 hour operation and typically 120 in parts.
unless complete kits are needed, rare but it happens.
I think I have had to use kits twice in the past 10 years.
50PSI on all 4?
your going to tell me 4 cylinders failed at once?
methinks ya need to find a dealership with certified techs.
look for fuel, electrical and four stroke systems certificates on the wall.
if they are NOT there than neither should YOU be there.
