F150TXR Oil capacity and fuel filter question

Morning,

I'm doing some maintenance on my 2008 F150TXR. I purchased a kit from a Yamaha dealer for the oil change, it included 5 US quarts of Yamaha 4 stroke oil, a filter, and new oil bolt drain gasket copper o-ring. The Yamaha part number is LUB-MRNMR-KT-10 for F150. My factory service manual says 5.5 US quarts with oil filter change? After the oil change I ran the engine for 5 min and checked the dip-stick level and it's in the middle of Low and High range. But according to FSM I'm short 1/2 quart. Can someone tell me if I'm good to go? I found it strange the kit for my specific engine was short.

Also I wanted to change the fuel filter element cartridge (filter model 6P3) and cannot unscrew the plastic bowl? I have completely removed the filter itself from the engine, and using a large wrench to hold the plastic bowl, tried to unscrew the top with no luck. Is there a special tool that slides over the bowl, and locks into the gear tooth like grooves at the top, to unscrew the bowl? The FSM shows this as a separate ring, but it's all one molded piece on this filter unit. This is the first time the filter has tried to be removed since the engine was new last fall.

Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Re: F150TXR Oil capacity and fuel filter question

Rodbolt said before there needs to be room for thermal expansion so you don't want to fill it to the top. When I change the oil on my f150 I usually use 5.2-5.3 quarts. It puts me around the 3/4 dipstick mark. I have a notch on the dipstick I made with a screwdriver at the 3/4 mark so I could initially tell if I was making or losing oil when I swapped props. I'd personally add a little and check it frequently.

Re: F150TXR Oil capacity and fuel filter question

The late model filter cups need the Yamaha special wrench to remove.

Some also have a problem with ethanol fuel which distorts them and either "locks" them in place or they may not even thread back into the bracket head.

By removing the filter assembly, draining the fuel, and putting the whole unit in a freezer for a few hours can sometimes help with both assembly and disassembly.

Talk to your dealer, as Yamaha is familiar with the filter "freezing" problem and may warranty a new cup for you. Be sure to buy the special wrench, though, for future maintenance.

midway between the hash marks on the stick is perfect,
break that filter head and you will find its NOT gonna get warrenteed and they cast about 240 bucks, head has to be purchased as an assy.
however, if a yamaha tech breaks it or strips the cup threads its all warrenty.
yes we are having Efuel issues with the cups.
some take 2 techs and a strap wrench to remove without breaking the head.
the tool is a teat on a boar hog if they are swollen.
remove the head, place upside down in a vice, after draining it in a suitable container, then gently lock the vice DO NOT clamp on a hose nipple.
have one tech hold the head and the other remove the cup.
IF the threads dont strip on the way out you can usually let it sit overnight and reuse it.
if your getting false water detects its a warrenty issue as well.

Thanks for all the information!

Is there a solution for the fuel cup issue, or is this just something I need to deal with each time I replace filter?

I'll remove and take to dealer to have tech assist with removal.

10-4 on the oil level!

that and I suck the oil out the dipstick tube as designed, seen to many folks strip the drain bolt threads.
I can helicoil them though.
some techs cannot or havent figgured out how,

Spoke with the only 5 star certified Yamaha dealer 20 miles from my house. The service department wasn't even aware of this issue with Efuel filter cups locking. He said I can bring it in and they would get it apart. I just hope the tech's know what's up. I can't be the only F150 in flippin Wisconsin that's had this issue...

Well that makes me feel confident in there mechanical abilities!

I spoke with Andy at SIM Yamaha www.simyamaha.com (great service and they know what's up, kinda like a rodbolt in WI :) to bad their 3 hours away!) He's sending me the entire filter assembly under warranty! He said take the old assembly off, drain the fuel, install the new unit. In a few days the swelling on the old cup should allow it to be removed. Then I have a back-up filter as well! He stated Yamaha has a Efuel cup lock resolution in the works, but who knows how long that will take?

I will reiterate.
suck the oil from the dipstick as designed, dont want any posts about helicoiling the pan retaining screw holes or the drain plug threads. that and I can suck the oil out the dipstick tube faster than you can access the drain plug.

Re: F150TXR Oil capacity and fuel filter question

The last post are results from a new service tech at SIM Yamaha I located that is master certified... I ditched the original lame local Yamaha 5 star cereal-box certified tech immediately after you told me about it being a video certification...

I know you told me about Efuel issues with the cup, I was only sayin how the master tech at SIM Yamaha is giving me a new filter free under warranty. :)

You rule dude! As always, I highly value all you give on iboats!

Have a great weekend!

Re: F150TXR Oil capacity and fuel filter question

Hi i have a 2008 yamaha f150 with 130 hrs on it. In the summer time when i checked the oil level it was about 3/4, the last time that i used it before winterisation i ran it very hard. I went to check the level after about a month and it is well above the high level. I am not an expert and I thought that maybe the oil in the oil filter has came down and the oil level came high. Can this really happen? Also my motor is a bit over propped because I ran about 5300 wot and i have a yamaha black stainless steel 13 3/4 x 21-M . If you think that this is my problem prop suggestions are appriciated. I have an Avon 620 and the top speed is about 48 mph gps, would like to have an allround good prop that offers a good ride.

Thanks!

Is there a reason you posted this on an old thread on oil cap and fuel filter?
