My Truck - 94' 351 2wd w/100k, but I am finding out the problem is from all models in the early/mid 90's.
If the fuse for your brake/hazard light blows, do not replace. Get service. This fuse is also linked to the sensor that sits on the brake master cylinder. The wires/sensor here are prone to corrosion and shorting, resulting in a fire. My truck lit up last night. I was lucky and able to contain the fire and only lost the master cylinder. But, I found some info on the web showing this to be a common problem where people lost everything. It only took 1-2 min to catch...

Just a heads up.
Jug

That is why I do preventive maintenance, and actually pop the hood and inspect things and keep things clean. It isn't a Ford thing, any car will have the same problem if neglected or not at least checked out on occasion. I'm not worried about it, thats what I have insurance for....

Not only the 150, here is a pic of our district 250 on fire this spring. It only took about three minutes and the thing was toast.

Re: F150 Warning

Hey Hedjug, Hi, I have a 98 F-150-XL-4wd
The other day I noticed my blinkers/flashers would not work. I checked the fuse and it was OK,I took out what I thought was the flasher plug and went to get a new one figureing the flasher was bad. I was unable to get one at any autoparts store was going to have to wait until Mon and go to dealer. Several hours later my son yelled that my flashers were flashing,I wondered how that could be when I had the part (flasher) out of the
truck. I doubled checked the book to make sure it was infact the right flasher plug and it was. I dont what happened, i just put everything back together and it has been fine since. What do you think I should check.

Jason J,
I am glad you maintain your truck. Can I assume that it or any of your other stuff has never broken. I didn't know that preventive maintenance stops all things from breaking. Now, I will never have to buy a car again....
Sorry for the attitude, but I posted this to help people. I wasn't looking for a lesson.

Radar,
It was actually a Cruise Control sensor on my truck that went bad. It sounds like your wiring may be different. My blinkers are not on the same circuit.
Jug

Re: F150 Warning

That website is spiffy, but it is Ford specific. It does not say anything about the automotive world in general. Anybody can stick a biased website up, but without all the facts, its worthless. All automakers at one time or another have had recalls. It doesn't hurt a person to actually go outside into the real world once in awhile. I practically live in junkyards, I go all the time, and I see a wide variety of burned cars. Yeah, Ford may have its issues, but they are not alone, and it is naive to simply damn an entire product line based on one website and a few postings. That is the one downside to the internet, a few people say something and it just has to be true.

Hedjug, it wasn't a lesson, it was a statement that there are a lot of things that happen that are preventable if a person takes the time to give things a once over. We are accountble for our own actions, it isn't always someone elses fault. Thats like saying its Fords fault that the motor seizes because a person never changes or checks the oil. I agree that Ford has issues, but so does everyone else. Yes, I rarely suffer breakdowns or malfunctions, because I check my gear out. That is why my truck always runs, my boat always starts at the ramp, etc, but don't damn me because I try to keep the things from happening that most people just let happen.

Yes, it was helpful posting this particular problem, hopefully it will cause people to actually pop their hood and look underneath instead of hoping the underpaid lube guy at Wal-mart finds that catastophic wiring harness failure...

Wire size, connectors that will not carry load. Ford has had problems with ignition switches, AC fan speed control switchs and alternators, back to the late 60s.
