Several years ago I bought one of those one piece crescent shaped jacks that you place under the axle after you have a flat and proceed to drive forward as the jack lifts the tire. Well the problem was as I had always suspected - My axle was so low after the flat that the jack couldn't get under the axle. I had to run to auto parts store and get a floor jack. I'd rather not carry a floor jack each time I tow my boat.

Any thoughts or ideas?

Mark

Re: EZ UP Jack

Yup. I carry a small floor jack in my SUV at all times, along with a cross lug wrench. Also in the box is a spare hub with bearings all packed in a ziploc bag, an 18" crescent wrench and an 18" pipe wrench for trailer balls. Spare balls in both sizes. Jumper cables. There's a 24' tow chain, a spare tire and wheel for the trailer, and a toolbox full of the needed tools for truck, trailer, and boat.

I never end up using any of this stuff for myself, but I can't tell you how many times I've used it for someone else who didn't have this junk in their tow vehicle.

I like helping folks out of trouble. Last time I was at the lake, this guy couldn't get his boat pulled out of the water. His 2WD pickup just kept slipping. After talking to him, I swapped to a 2" ball on my Jimmy, we chocked his trailer wheels and I hooked up and pulled his trailer out of the water.

Swapped back to my 1 7/8" ball and got my boat out.

Since that happened, I added a second drawbar to my pile of junk in the truck, this one with a 2" ball. I figure I can tow anything, now.

Thanks guys. As they say "the picure is worth a thousand words".

All in all I was very lucky. I had pulled about 300 miles that day @ highway speed. The tire went flat as I left a stop light about 1 mile from my house - 20-25mph max.

Thanks Again!!
Mark

Hey, next time I'm trailering in Malta, I'll send you my cell phone number!

By the way, all that stuff fits neatly in a plastic bin. With the lid on, nobody even knows what's in there. Weighs about 80 pounds, though, so I don't load and unload the whole bin all that often.
