I have a 1987 ezloader trailer that has been great. It seems that I have a leaking wheel cylinder, can anyone tell me how this brake drum comes off of the back plate. Does the nut behind the bearing cap have to come off first or what. Thanks in advance.

Re: ez loader

Looking at the rear of the backing plate down low near the bottom you'll see an oval shaped almost rectangular hole that may or may not have a rubber plug in it, just inside the hole sits a starwheel that is used to set the brake pads, instert a slotted screwdriver and using the hole as a leverge point carefully turn the starwheel this will back off the brakeshoes from the drum and allow you to simply pull the drum off. careful because one direction tightens and one loosens.
the proceedure is called backing off the brake shoes in order to remove the drum. hope this helps you.

Well I think this style is different because the drum doesn't slip onto the studs. There are actually no studs, the rims bolts to the drum, which has threaded holes in it.

Also what releases the chrome sleeve from the drum? Maybe this would help me get the nut out of the drum.

Pop the " bearing protector" chrome sleeve off. From the pic it looks like a bearing buddy.
Then take off the nut and related stuff. You may have to back off the star adjuster from behind as 70eliminator said in order to get them drum free.
Have fun and good luck.
