How do I know if my truck provieds my trailer with a 12v reverse indicator to cut out the surge brakes while backing up?

Does any one have a link to a site were I can order the small blocking clip that will prevent the surge brakes from coming forward if I determine that I do not have a 12v signal?

I need to back mine up my steep drive.

Thanks in advance

To operate the electric brake lock out you will have a 5th pin on the trailer connector, Dean. With a voltmeter you can determine if your truck puts +12V on that pin when in reverse.

For more on this from the experts, go to championtrailers.com an get tech support.

Good luck. :)

JB,

thanks for the the quick reply. I only have a 4 pin and two 7 pins so I guess that answers that question. This ex-Submariner knows a bit about RV's and their systems but has a lot to learn about boats and theirs.

Check your 7 pin harness for a pin that has 12V on it when the truck is in reverse. Backup lights will activate the solenoid. If you don't have that pin, all it takes is one additional wire connected to one of the backup lights. A single pin connection between truck and trailer completes the job.

the block out works off the backup lights.

Thanks everyone,

I think my EZ-laoder has the solenoid now I just need to activate it. Maybe a 7 pin to 5 pin adaptor.

I just installed discs on my ex-loader; just spliced a wire into my back-up lights for hook-up to solenoid. If you can back it up at all, the solenoid is all ready hooked up. I tried to back mine just using the hitch as a ground, without using the ground wire-dug holes in my backyard with spinning tires:^
