External Fuel Tank for Nissan 3.5B?

A while back someone told me an external fuel tank adapter kit is/was available for Nissan-Tohatsu 2.5HP. Seems that it may be possible to do the same for a 3.5HP, based on external tank parts for 2.5HP.

Apparently the convert procedure is in Tohatsu manual for a 2.5HP - block is same as 3.5. I'm told that a specific Tohatsu flow restrictor is needed and that an in-line fuel filter should be installed. Mention was made of using an OMC diaphragm pump (size of silver dollar) that uses crankcase pulse vacuum. Unless there's a removable plug, I guess drill & tap for installing a crankcase fitting would be needed. The internal tank can either be removed or maybe have a 3-way valve to switch between internal & external tank.

Any comments and/or specifics on this possible conversion would be appreciated.

The kit has not been available from Tohatsu since 1993. You could rig something up, but they don't have a boss on the block anymore to attach a pump to.

Thanks for the replies. I'd seen the pump-in pictures -- a good idea. Maybe someone will have specifics on parts, etc for a direct hookup.

Elvin: Since the crankcase no longer has a boss for installing a fitting, does there seem to be some other place that might be suitable to drill & tap?

Not that I remember. But, I'll pull the covers off one tomorrow and take a look.

Nope, there is no place where you can put one.
