I have a 25 HP Honda outboard and want to locate battery under steering console of 17'er. The original battery cable is approx. 6' long and I need about twice this to do a neat job. Any easy, reliable way to accomplish this other than replacing entire cable from engine? Any hints appreciated.

Re: extending battery cable

you can extend, patch and splice.......likely it will come back and haunt you when you least expect it. Do it right......replace the cables and go one size larger.

As someone says......do it right the first time!
:)

Re: extending battery cable

I want to do the same with a Tohatsu tldi 90--move batteries to the console. The amp/wire size chart for the run calls for #1 cable. How best to connect to the engine? Remove the factory powercord and replace with the #1's? Cut and splice factory cord to new cables? Surely I am not the first to do this.

Thanks for the advice,

David

Splicing would work, but replacement is both cleaner and more reliable.

Thank you for the confirming 'second opinion'. It is as I thought, so I'll remove the factory cord and snake through new cables. I did hesitate before 'surgery', but off we go. Any cautions or tips about this procedure?

Re: extending battery cable

Use actual marine-grade wire, such as Ancor brand. Do proper crimps on the ends. Use proper adhesive-lined shrink tubing at the connections. Torque connection nuts correctly. All should go well.
