Warranties come in two varieties:

1) Inclusionary: We give you a list of everything that we'll warranty. Anything not specifically listed isn't warrantied.

2) Exclusionary: Everything is included BUT the things listed.

#2 is a much better warranty.

On top of this, you've got to watch out for causal clauses. IE - if your raw water pump failed (say you had an I/O) they'd cover the raw water pump, but might exclude the expensive damage due to overheat.

These warranties are insurance policies - they're betting that the cost of repairs will be UNDER the cost of the warranty. Statistically, they win.

I really have no feedback to provide on marine specific warranties, but I will tell you to shop around. Many warranties are "mark up" items that you can buy directly at a discount. If I was to consider buying one, I'd want direct feedback from people that had used the warranty successfully.

Real crap shoot. How long is the original warranty? Maby you should hold out and you will be offered an extended warranty when the original expires. The dock side repair looks good but I doubt it would really happen. Take a fishing pole with you and see if they ever show up. All people want you to bring the boat to them.
Good friend bought a new GLASTRON with a volvo DP. After no more than 6 months he decides to remove and relubricate the prop splines. Inner prop would not come off. Although it was accessable on a lift, he had to rent a trailer, haul out the boat and bring it to the dealer. Not covered under warranty as this was a maintance problem, ( 6 months ? ) and he had to pay for a rehub plus labor. I am a bit cynical concerning warranties as my experience goes back to autos in the 60s. FRED
