Anybody got an opinion on extended warrenties offered by the manufacture of Mercury outboards. My 1 year is about to run out and they want $195 for an additional 4 years. Is it worth it? Personal experiences?

Not sure about Merc. OMC's was good. It was an "inside" the corp. warranty.

The one I had on my Suzuki wasn't too hot. It was held by Republic Insurance-a G.E. Comapany.

If it's backed by Mercury/Brunswick, it's probably OK. Make sure it's not some off brand sold by the dealer with no conection to Merc.

Be sure to read over the warranty policy BEFORE signing it to make sure that what it's covering will fit your needs.

And remember - On a vehicle - a "bumper-to-bumper" policy does NOT cover it from bumper-to-bumper. Mucho fine print.

G'Luck - and let us know what you decide.

Rex S.

Not going to extend the warrenty. It covers basically factory defects only and from my experience, I would have found any problems by now. I'll just do the basic mat. stuff and hope I don't find any underwater obstructions!!!
