explorer trailer wiring

Hi guys,<br />I have a 1991 ford explorer that I will be using to tow a 18 ft. boat that weighs 1500 lbs. I have seen a item called a t-connector on line that you plug into the tail light connectors on the vehicle and then plug it into the trailer connector. It sounds like a great time saver but I do not have a clue as to where you find the connectors on the explorer. I have crawled under the back but do not see any of the wiring to the tail lights. After raising the hatch I found that the tail lights are held in place with two phillips screws. Are the connectors accessable after removing the tail lights? Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. <br />Thanks,<br />Bill

Those t-connector products work well and are easy to install. I haven't done it on an Explorer, but several others. When you buy the product, the instruction sheet will tell you where to find the connection that you will use. <br /><br />Make sure you get one for your vehicle model/year.

These T-connectors have another great advantage beyond being vastly convenient, they save you from cutting and spicing into the wires. This helps eliminate corroded wires. The T-connector will come with specific instructions for the vehicle you are installing it in.

The connector you are looking for is up under the left rear area. You will see a large connector with several wires going into it. You just unplug that connector and the trailer T plugs in between them.

Thanks a lot fellows,<br />Once again my fellow boating people have come through for me, especially jtexas the link you gave me had all the answers I needed. It even had the instructions showing that the connector on my explorer is inside the jack compartment. <br />Thanks again guys your all great.<br />Bill
