Has anyone had experience with hitches installed by Midas?

I'm looking to have a class 2 hitch installed on a 2002 Chevy Impala. I called U-Haul and got an estimate of $193 installed. I was a little surprised because in 1999 they installed a class 2 hitch on my 1994 Taurus for $55! I've been very satisfied with it, no wiring problems or anything, lights always worked etc.

So I'm shopping around a little...

I've always installed my own hitches; then I know it's done correctly. The 55 dollar price seems low but heck, it was almost 10 years ago.The $193 includes the hitch which costs between $123 (Hidden Hitch Class2) and $108 (Draw Tite, Class2). These prices come from www.1800hitchit.com and naturally you have to add some cash for shipping these heavy items.
My advice is to buy the hitch locally at the lowest price for a name brand and install it yourself. It's only a 15 minute job. These days the holes all line up and the hardest part is holding the hitch up while bolting. I use a floor jack or two young guys.
I don't ever recall seeing a "Midas" branded hitch so I imagine they're using someone else's brand.

Re: Experience with Midas hitches?

Thanks a lot JerseyJim. Stupid me, I realized after a long memory search that the $55 receipt I looked at was from when I had had the hitch removed from one Taurus to put on another! U Haul is having trouble finding a hitch for my car regionally, the other local installers either don't carry the hitch or want too much $$$. If I were to DIY the job, my biggest worry would be the wiring. I can follow directions, but that's my weak area.
