Finally fired up my new motor.2007 Merc 5.7 carbed.OH HAPPY DAY !Been a long time coming.Fired it up on muffs last night and ran for 35-40 minutes to work all the air out of the cooling system.According to the dash temp guage, maintained about 175.Oil pressure good, shifts good except a little stiff after sitting 9 months.I'm sure it's the upper cable as I noticed it before I even hooked it up(when installing new outdrive and moved control lever from F to N.Is the best way to solve this to remove the core and lube it?Also, the steel tube from the exhaust manifold to the intake gets HOTTER THAN H$@#.Is this normal?all else seems good cool risers, good water flow out transom.I am SOOO HAPPY.Like a kid with a new toy.want to thank everyone(Don,Bondo,Rick) and I'll soon post thanks along with an outline of all work done and results of the splash test which I hope to do by this weekend.Still,MANY THANKS !! Jerry

Yes, that tube getting hot is normal. That is why there is (should be) a heat insulation tube around it.
There is no lubing the cables, just replace them. The inside gets corroded or a groove worn in the outer sheath that causes the inner cable to bind.
