Newbie boat owner, decent auto mechanic. My question about my OMC I/O:

Part 1- Should all the exhaust and water exit through the prop, or is it OK for it to also to come from behind the outdrive, up and in the point at which it articulates?
Part 2- This is supposedly a new motor. I changed milky oil out and it got milky again quickly. I also had a hydro lock with muffs on in the back yard for a few hours that eventually resolved and ran it for the second time. (After the first run I changed the oil).
Part 3-Is it possible these are related, or am I wishfully thinking and SOL with a cracked block, head, or manifold?

Re: Exhaust question

Sounds lik you have a cracked block or manifold. And it is normal for the water and exhaust to come out around the outdrive those are idle reliefs.

Re: Exhaust question

Yes, your hydro lock and water in the oil are related. Do a compression check on each cylinder. Do you know which cylinder(s) were locked? Or did you just keep hitting the key until the water was forced past the rings?
Also, it takes more than one oil change to clear out emulsified oil and the filter must be changed each time as well.
Your drive is a Cobra drive, the exhaust bellows is relief cut, so that water coming out of there is normal.

Re: Exhaust question

Thanks for your answers, I haven't given up hope yet. The boat sat for 2 years, winterized, but outside. Another oil change is my plan. On further examination, I may have overfilled the sump causing the hydro lock from below. I don't believe I have the correct dipstick. 5 quarts of oil was sufficient for an oil pressure of 60 at idle and over 80 at 2K RPM, but did not wet the dipstick. Hmm.!
