Hello,
I started my motor today because we are taking my boat camping tomorrow. After it got started and checked everthing, I noticed a very small amount of water leaking out from where the exhaust port plate and the block connect. I assume all I need is a gasket, right? How hard is this job to do? I might be able to change it out at the campsite. Is there any harm in running it in this condition??

Re: Exhaust port

A small amount of water probably won't hurt anything. Just depends on how much water is leaking out. Try tightening the bolts around the area where the leak is. It can be a job replacing the gasket as it's not uncommon to break one or two of the bolts. The lower bolts are the ones that can cause a problem especially if you snap one off. Pretty hard to get a drill down there to drill'em out. Actually it's not that easy just to get a wrench on'em. Sometimes you have to loosen the whole lower pan to get enough room to get a wrench on the lower bolts. I definitely wouldn't attempt to replace the gasket at a camp site.

Re: Exhaust port

Don't try to loosen the bolts without some prep.WD-40 or PB Blaster.Start spraying and tap on the head of the bolts with a small ballpeen hammer.Spray and tap, spray and tap.
It will help loosen the corrosion and ease the removal.
Try to tap and tighten till you can get it home.J
