Water is leaking from the exhaust port on the rear of my motor leg, at the spitter. I cannot find or get a gasket for it. Is it really needed? '87 50 hp.

Re: exhaust port

If you are asking about the idle relief vent--the round hole out the back of the rear shroud--water should normally exit there.

Re: exhaust port

I now water is suppsed to come out of there, my question is if I need the gasket to seal the cover to the motor leg. I think the exhaust ports also come into this cover with the water. I will have to try and get a pic. FA89832-2 MOTOR LEG EXHAUST COVER .

smallie;

That is just a cork gasket which you can manufacture yourself.

Re: exhaust port

If you can't find the gasket, use some grey gasket paper found in auto stores OR just seal it with some black silicone RTV. OR leave it alone. The water that drips out will run down the leg and eventually make its way out. Any exhaust that does exit through a broken or missing gasket will simply blow out the top of the shroud. So no, it is not absolutely necessary, but it is there for a reason and better if it is in place.
