I have a 2006 Mercrusier Tow Sport 5.7 MPI direct drive engine in a ski boat.Serial number OW395435. It has about 122 hours on it and has been very well maintained
Last weekend heard a noise and raised the engine cover. I smelled exhaust. the noise was coming from the left side in the area of the first and second spark plug on that side. I could also feel some air (exhaust) pressure. So to me it sounds like the gasket on the exhaust manifold has gone. A couple of questions.
I have had other boats and never had anything like this - is it common?
Is there anything we might have done to cause this?
The boat is on a lake in Western MD and I usually pull it shortly after labor day, am I going to hurt anything if I run it for another 6 to 8 hours on a couple of weekends?
The oil looks fine- no water, oil pressure is normal and temp is normal
