I have a 87'merc 260hp, alpha one.
How hot should the exhaust elbows be? Should you be able to touch them and not be too hot?
The temp gauge shows around 120-150 while running. But the risers/elbow are hot, can't really hold your hand on them. Could they be going bad? I don't recall them being that hot last season. A new impeller was put on at the start of last summer.

Does the bypass from the t-stat housing go to the elbow or the manifold, I can't remeber? Could this be restricted?
I pulled off the hose that has the check balls in them If I remeber right these went to the elbows and the water flow seemed low to me but I have nothing to comapre it to, and I was running on muffs at the time.

Thanks

The 'bypass' goes to the elbows.......
I would pull the elbows & check the dumps for restriction from scale......
You should be able to touch them & the manifold, by they will be too hot to keep your hand on them for too long......;)
