i am in the process of converting my 97 bryant with a 4.3l mercruiser to a two piece manifold set up on the adivce of forum members here. i have everything torn apart and noticed one of the exhaust flappers is bad. i'm not able to find any parts locally to replace the flapper, and while searching i noticed some other forum members advise to completely remove the flappers (this was on a different motor) and was wondering if this can be safely done on my boat. i was hoping to get the boat back on the water by Monday 7/22 so i was considering deleting the flappers. let me know, thanks.

Ayuh,... That's one of those, Ya, ya can, but I sure as 'ell wouldn't,....

Even the thru-hull pipes I've built for various boats, have shutters in 'em,...
Ya never know when the motor might quit, or ya gotta chop the throttle at full speed planin',...
Shutters Will stop the backwash,....
