1978 galaxie 260 merc.

Question is, the two rubber bellows, the 3" to 4" boot between the riser and y-pipe. Can I cut the bad ones out, and replace the boots without having to pull the risers off?

Then put the boots back in?

The bolts are a little rusted looking and it doesn't look easy to get the inside bolts off.

Thanks for the help.

It's been a long time since I worked on anything that old, but I am almost certian that's a no. If yours need replacing, cut them off, you'll know right away if it's possible. If the risers are very rusty, think about removing the exhaust manifold instead. You are a lot less likely to break things.

Well if I have to remove the manifolds, guess what, I am going to replace everything with Dennis Moore's exhaust manifold kit that will increase hp.....

I don't want to do that much work to replace the stock crappy log style manifolds.

Anyone got any other opinions?

Thanks!
