Rubber boots heated up and melted hole through side. What may have caused it? motor did not overheat and water was pumping through. Are rubber boots lined with heat protection?

I just had the same problem yesterday when I was working on my motor. I didnt melt a hole, but I did get alittle white smoke off the rubber boot. My motor wasnt overheating, and I was getting water pumped through my system. However I didnt think it was at a high enough pressure. I tightened the connections from the sea water pump, and the heat exchanger and it fixed my problem. I got better water flow. A few turns of a wrench on your cooling system might fix your problem. Just an idea.

Closed cooing or raw water? Either way you're not getting enough water flow. I would pull the risers off, and check them for scale restricting the out let ports.

Had a problem like this....thing was mine blistered without a melt down. I found this out when I changed a cracked riser. The fool who had the boat before me used home depot 3 inch rubber connectors for sewers. I took them both apart and did it right. That exhaust hose is expensive. I paid $22 bucks for one foot of it.
