If raw water comes out of that tube, you've got a real problem.
That device is a check valve, its a volvo only deal.
The hose connected to it goes to the spark arrestor. Its purpose is to allow air to enter the riser exhaust side in the event there is a vacuum condition (like dieseling), to avoid sucking water into the engine.

The service manual will show the cooling flow, however that device in question goes to the exhaust side of the riser.

I need to get a manual, the valve is working fine. I am day dreaming again...that is i need to find a way to divert water flow further down stream from the riser..may not even be feasible..Boring day at work..;)

Not sure why you want to divert water flow. What are you trying to accomplish.

Reversion issues with a cam that has 51 degree's of valve over lap...Its a bit over the accepted norms....Mabye a H type of exhaust crossover would cancel out the vacum pulses....directly behind the riser's...:D...to much time on my hinds ....this could be dangerous...;)

Ayuh,....

You'll need Looong extended SSteel risers for That to work...
Look at some of the exhaust systems used on the Big Hot-rod boats,...
My risers are only a tiny bit longer than stock,.. But they Are SSteel,...;)

I've got a set for my V8 build that are Dry for about 18" down,+ back til they drop in the water...

So that will work...umm maybe..;) i take it that's gen 5..6..or 7...By the way...You have a certian responsbility here. That is clairvoyance, what this world need's so desperatley....aka transparency...as spinner once said so eloquently ..".Keep on keeping it on"...;)

Opps forgot something. If i have a pipe bender...say a muffler shop...yep tail pipe ss and have it ceramic coated do you see any problems there?
