Hi all
Servicing my Yamaha F80 outboard. When running the engine at idle excessive water is coming out the front exhaust relief valve, while the telltale is weak.
Is this normal? I’ve just replaced the Water pump. Removing the thermostat doesn’t seem to make a difference.
Any suggestions gratefully received!
thanks
Ella

Well, you can drop the lower unit to inspect connections and grommets for water flow tube, etc.....but I sorta doubt you have a problem if motor is running fine and not overheating...

Thank you for the reply. We took the lower foot off again. It looks like there’s a bit of water weeping between the drive shaft and the water pump housing. The only thing that seems to make the seal here is the impeller itself - is that usual?
The telltale has improved but there’s still a fair bit of cold water coming out a bleed hole at the front (?) where the lower foot mates with the engine. Not sure if this is normal but as you say the engine isn’t over-heating.
thanks again
